Tragedy of the day (century):
Mother's Cookies have gone bankrupt!!! My children will never know the sweet golden taste of an animal cracker soaked in colored frosting and topped with sprinkles. They can only imagine the joy childhood USED to hold.
Mother's was founded after Woodrow Wilson declared Mother's Day a national holiday. It is a celebration of motherhood, and of sugar (in a good way - see below).
In honor of the untimely passing of Mother's Circus Animal Cookies, I have prepared a short poem which I wrote, all by myself, without any help from anyone, especially not WH Auden:
Funeral Blues
by Aubrey Woolverton, not WH Auden
Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone,
Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone,
Silence the pianos and with muffled drum
Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come.
Let aeroplanes circle moaning overhead
Scribbling on the sky the message "Mother's Circus Animal Cookies are Dead."
Put crepe bows round the white necks of the public doves,
Let the traffic policemen wear black cotton gloves.
Mother's Circus Animal Cookies were my North, my South, my East and West,
My working week and my Sunday rest,
My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song;
I thought that circus animal cookies would last forever: I was wrong.
The stars are not wanted now; put out every one,
Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun,
Pour away the ocean and sweep up the woods;
For nothing now can ever come to any good.

In case you care, here is a scene where Four Weddings and a Funeral takes my poem and totally changes the words and meaning to be about some dude, and not about Circus Animals. TACKY.
