Oberlin

School is starting - a time to reflect on what makes Oberlin great (or just plain ridiculous, depending on who you ask). Features a hawt pic by my best friend, the incomparable Megan Snowe:

I also did some research and budgetting and as it turns out I can actually afford car insurance and gas on my budget! This is exciting to me because while giving up my car and going green was alluring, the idea of walking every morning before dawn through this:

was not as alluring as one might think. I consider myself a capable girl and I handled walking through Vladimir, Russia at 1 am on a few occasions, but I'm also not an idiot. According to the NY Times, my path from the bus stop to my work takes me through"a place of wandering drunks and drug addicts, with homeless people lining urine-stained sidewalks in sleeping bags, cardboard shelters and tents." This is what I experience most mornings on my one-block walk from the parking garage, but at least it's light out then. I'd feel like a real asshole if I saved a couple hundred bucks on auto stuff just to get mugged, raped, kidnapped and murdered on the way to work. (As we all know) I've seen way too much SVU to put up with that shit.

Aubrey! Parker Snowe here. How about plunking down a few dead presidents for a bicycle? That way you could go green and not worry about the tent city residents at the same time!

Hope life's treating you well.
